How a European move works, step by step

Survey and plan
We look at everything that is moving and the access at both ends, then set out the route, the crossing, and the timing. Nothing about the quote is a guess.

Pack and export-wrap
Goods are packed to travel and to be handled more than once, with fragile and high-value pieces given the protection a long haul needs.

Inventory and customs paperwork
We build the valued packing list and prepare the customs declarations — including Transfer of Residence relief where you are eligible — so the border is paperwork, not panic.

Transit
Your goods travel by road across Europe, on their own vehicle or consolidated with other moves on the route. Transit times depend on route, customs clearance and consolidation scheduling — your written quote includes an estimated window.

Delivery and unpack
We carry in, rebuild what we took apart, and clear the packing away, so the last day of the move looks like the start of living there.

Part-load (shared)
Your belongings travel alongside other moves heading the same way, so you pay for the space you use rather than a whole vehicle. It suits smaller homes and flexible timing. Because the vehicle is shared, collection and delivery sit within a scheduled window rather than a fixed slot — we explain how that works before you commit.
Dedicated load
A vehicle taken to yourself for a direct run from your door to the new address. It gives you the tightest, most predictable schedule and suits larger or time-sensitive moves. You are paying for the whole vehicle, and we will tell you plainly when that is worth it and when a part-load would serve you just as well.
The honest bit about customs since Brexit
A household move from the UK into the EU is now a customs export, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. In practice it means a detailed, valued inventory of what you are shipping, a customs declaration at the border, and — for most people relocating their home — an application for Transfer of Residence relief, which can remove duty and VAT on your used personal belongings where you qualify. We prepare this paperwork as part of the move and tell you exactly what you need to provide, such as proof that you are settling at the new address. There are no fees hidden in the small print; what customs may charge is separate from what we quote, and we will never pretend to know a figure we cannot.
Your goods are covered by goods-in-transit and liability cover for the journey, and for anything high-value or irreplaceable we will talk you through additional cover before you book. It is the same principle as our UK moves — you should know what is protected, and how, before a single box is loaded.
