Privacy policy
We're a family firm, and we treat your personal information the way we'd want ours treated. This page explains, in plain terms, what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
This policy explains how Eckersley Removals ("we", "us" or "our") handles the personal information you give us when you ask for a quote, contact us, or use our website. It is written to reflect our obligations under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are the data controller for the information described here.
If you have any questions about this policy, or you'd like to exercise any of the rights set out below, please email us at hello@eckersleyremovals.com.
What information we collect
We only ask for what we need to quote for and carry out your move. When you complete our quote form or get in touch, that typically includes:
- Your name, so we know who we're dealing with.
- Your phone number and email address, so we can reply and talk the move through.
- Your pickup and drop-off addresses, so we can plan the route, access and crew.
- Your preferred moving date, if you give us one, so we can check availability.
- Any notes you add — details about your belongings, access, storage or anything else that helps us scope the job.
We do not ask for special-category data (such as health information), and we'd ask you not to include anything sensitive in the free-text notes field that isn't relevant to your move.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your information to prepare a quote, arrange and carry out your move, keep you updated, answer your questions, and handle anything that follows, such as storage or a query about your belongings. Our lawful bases under the UK GDPR are:
- Taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and performing that contract — this covers quoting for and carrying out your move once you decide to go ahead.
- Our legitimate interests — responding to your enquiry, keeping accurate records of jobs and quotes, and running our business properly, where doing so doesn't override your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we have to keep certain records, for example for tax or accounting purposes.
How your information is stored and who sees it
Your details are handled by the family team who quote and plan your move, and shared only with the people who genuinely need them to do the job — for example, the moving crew assigned to your collection and delivery. On a European move, the information needed to clear customs (such as your inventory and delivery address) is shared with the relevant customs authorities and any clearing agent handling the border formalities, because the move can't be completed without it.
We also rely on a small number of trusted service providers who process information on our behalf, such as our website host, email provider, and the tools described below. They act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't pass it to third parties for their own marketing.
reCAPTCHA and website security
Our quote form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which helps us tell real enquiries from automated spam and abuse. To do this, reCAPTCHA collects certain technical and usage information and is governed by Google's own privacy policy and terms of service. We use it to keep the form working and our inbox clear, not to profile you.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors find and use our website — which pages are read, how people arrive, and where things could be clearer — so we can improve it. This is measured in aggregate; it isn't used to identify you personally. Analytics and reCAPTCHA may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may work less smoothly if you do.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for no longer than necessary for the purposes it was collected. If you ask for a quote but don't go ahead, we keep your enquiry for a reasonable period in case you come back to us, then remove it. Where we've carried out a move, we retain the records for as long as we need them to support the job, handle any follow-up, and meet our legal and accounting obligations, after which they're securely deleted.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Rectify anything that's inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erase your information where there's no good reason for us to keep it.
- Restrict or object to how we use it in certain circumstances.
- Portability — to receive the information you gave us in a usable format.
To exercise any of these, email us at hello@eckersleyremovals.com and we'll deal with your request promptly and without charge in the ordinary course.
Complaints
We'd always rather you came to us first so we can put things right. But you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or by phoning their helpline.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in how we work or in the law. The version published here is always the current one, so please check back if you'd like to see how we handle your information.
