Where it helps, we are glad to liaise directly with an executor or a solicitor so the practical side is one less thing on your plate. And if the estate is still being settled, we can clear in stages — setting items aside for valuation or distribution before the rest is handled. How does a house clearance work, from start to finish?
It starts with a look at the property, either in person or by video, so we understand the volume, the access and anything that needs care. We agree what is being cleared, what you want kept or set aside, and how the rest should be handled. On the day the crew works through room by room, sorting as we go — items to keep, items to donate, items to recycle and items to dispose of — and we leave the property swept and clear. You get one point of contact throughout.
What affects the cost of a house clearance?
Every property is different, so we price the job in front of us rather than a rate off a chart. The things that move the figure are the volume of contents, how easy the property is to access — stairs, parking, distance to the van — how much needs specialist or licensed disposal, and whether there are items of value that offset the work. We set all of that out plainly in a written quote before anything is agreed, with no surprises added later.
Can you handle a probate or bereavement clearance sensitively?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. We know a clearance after a death is not just a job of moving things, so we work unhurriedly, keep aside anything you have asked us to protect, and are glad to liaise with an executor or solicitor if that makes things easier. There is no pressure and no clock-watching — we go at a pace that respects the family.
What happens to everything you clear?
As little as possible goes to landfill. Usable furniture, clothing and household goods can be donated to charity on your behalf — many charities, including the British Heart Foundation, run their own reuse schemes, and we are happy to route suitable items their way. Anything that cannot be reused is separated for recycling wherever it can be, and only genuine waste is disposed of, through licensed routes.
Do you clear hoarded or heavily cluttered properties?
We do, and we do it without judgement. Hoarded-property clearances need patience, the right protective equipment and a calm, methodical approach rather than a rush — and often a bit of discretion too. We treat the person and the property with respect, work through it carefully, and keep you informed at every stage.
